Satin pyjamas stay smooth and shiny for longer with a little care. These steps are for polyester satin like ours — real silk needs gentler handling, so always check the care label.
Machine washing
- Turn inside out and fasten the buttons to protect the shiny side.
- Use a mesh laundry bag so zips and hooks on other clothes don’t snag the fabric.
- Wash cold (30°C max) on a gentle or delicates cycle with a mild detergent.
- Wash with similar colours — especially the first few washes of a red set.
- Skip fabric softener, which can dull the sheen.
Hand washing
Swirl in cool water with a little mild detergent for a few minutes, rinse, and press out water gently — don’t wring or twist.
Drying
Hang to dry on a padded hanger away from direct heat and sunlight. Don’t tumble dry — heat can damage satin.
Ironing
Satin rarely needs ironing if hung while damp. If it does, use a cool iron on the reverse, or a pressing cloth.
Storing
Fold loosely or hang. Avoid storing near rough fabrics that could pull the weave.

Questions
Can satin go in the washing machine?
Polyester satin can — wash cold on a gentle cycle in a laundry bag. Real silk satin should usually be hand washed or dry cleaned.
Can you tumble dry satin pyjamas?
No. Heat can damage satin, so hang them to dry.
Why has my satin gone dull?
Fabric softener, hot washes and tumble drying can all dull the sheen. Wash cold with a mild detergent and air dry.
